Brian Mwenda, a fictitious attorney who misrepresented himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, was arrested by Kenyan police on Thursday. According to reports, Mwenda successfully argued 26 cases before High Court judges, magistrates, and Court of Appeal judges before being arrested.
He was taken into custody on false pretenses by the Law Society of Kenya Nairobi Branch Rapid Action Team (RAT). When RAT got complaints from the general public about the impostor’s fraudulent behavior, he was caught.
He is not an advocate and does not have a license to practice law in Kenya, according to LSK documents.
Brian was neither listed as a member of the LSK Nairobi Branch or as an advocate for the High Court of Kenya, according to a statement. He is being detained in the RAT’s main office while an investigation is ongoing.
Videos show Brian defending the former Mungiki leader in a court case that was broadcast online at the same time.
“It has been brought to the attention of the LSK Nairobi Branch through the Rapid Action Team (RAT), that the pictured person has been presenting and conducting himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of LSK Nairobi Branch,”
